During Global Asbestos Awareness Week (1-7 April 2023), the Institution is reminding people that asbestos exists in many millions of buildings worldwide and, when not managed properly, poses a severe threat to people’s health.

About Global Asbestos Awareness Week

Organized by the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), Global Asbestos Awareness Week is held annually at the beginning of April to raise awareness by sharing stories and seek better prevention.

This year’s week is labelled ‘One Word, One Week, One World’ and has four key focus areas:

• Banning the mining, manufacturing, and use of all six asbestos fibres around the world

• Preventing asbestos exposure

• Increasing compliance and enforcement of existing laws and regulations

• Strengthening international partnerships to protect public health
